Mt Surmon Wines
About this Cellar
Vine planting began in 1995 with chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz and was completed in 2000 with nebbiolo, pinot gris and viogner: covering 20ha in all. Most of this fruit is sold to Clare Valley wineries. Some is retained for the Mt Surmon Wines label. Our Wines are made by local winemakers under contract including Ben Jeannertte and Kevin Mitchell.
Jeni and Burt Surmon the growers, maintain a hands-and-palate-on supervision over each phase of grape growing and winemaking. Wine is made in the vineyard so careful attention is paid to pruning and nurturing the vines to produce premium fruit. In turn, the fruit is nurtured through a traditional, simple winemaking process which is in stark contrast to large scale commercial assembly line processing of larger wineries.
With grape growing and wine making small definitely is more sophisticated: boutique is beautiful.
